Institute of Directors inaugurates Tijjani Borodo as 18th President

The Institute of Directors (IOD), Nigeria on Thursday inaugurated Alhaji Tijjani  Borodo as the 18th President and Chairman, Governing Council, a ceremony which attracted hundreds of members across the country, as well as guests from other membership countries.

Penpushing reports that the new President at the well packaged and colourful ceremony held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State was sworn-in by George Etomi, Principal Partner, George Etomi and Partners Law Firm.

The investiture Committee Chairman, Mr Adetunji Oyebanji delivered a welcome address, while the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Majesty Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as well as Special Guest of Honour Governor Dauda Bayero of Zamfara State gave remarks.

Penpushing further reports that the instrument of office was presented to the newly inaugurated President by the immediate Past President, Dr Ije Jidenma with the support of past Presidents, amidst loud ovation by members and other invited guests

The profile of  Borodo has it that he was born on 16th October, 1957 in Bukuri, Plateau State , and attended the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he earned a Law Degree in 1979, a Barrister at Law in 1980, as well as Masters Degree in Law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom in 1985.

Penpushing also reports that he began his legal career in 1981 as a Pupil State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice in the former Kano State, which included Kano and Jigawa States, where he showcased an unwavering passion for justice, particularly in criminal cases.

The President later rose to the esteemed position of Director of Public Prosecution until September 1988, while this position served as a testament to his exceptional legal prowess and unwavering dedication to upholding justice

Penpushing reports that in October 1988, Borodo transitioned into the world of banking, joining First Bank of Nigeria as the Regional Manager (North), while record has it that his remarkable and exceptional contributions were absolutely   indispensable in effectively implementing   essential banking policies in the northern region.

The track record of success of Borodo culminated in his appointment as Company Secretary of First Bank of Nigeria and subsequently Executive Vice President and a key member of the executive management team which lasted more than a decade

Penpushing further reports that in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession in Nigeria, Borodo received a lifetime achievement award from Esquire Magazine in October 2017, and in addition was appointed as a member of the technical committee responsible for drafting the financial reporting council’s Nigeria code of corporate governance in January, 2018

The exceptional achievements of Borodo in realm of corporate governance resulted in his selection to serve on the esteemed boards of numerous institutions, and aside from his professional responsibilities he is actively engaged in philanthropic endeavours and devotes his time to various non-profit organisations .

Penpushing also reports that his exemplary professional journey is enhanced by his profound membership of several reputable organisations, while his commitment is his notable association with the Chartered Institute of Directors (IOD), Nigeria.

The President who is happily married with children and grandchildren is a Fellow of the Society of Corporate Governance in Nigeria, and currently serves as the Principal Partner of Tijjani Borodo and Associates, a prestigious law firm with offices in Lagos and Abuja.

Penpushing reports that the South-West Chairman of the Institute of Directors (IOD),Iyalode Alaba Lawson in his congratulatory message to the President, said his(Borodo) tremendous achievement was a testament to his genuine commitment to advancing good governance and attaining, as a well as as maintaining the highest professional standards in corporate leadership.

The Iyalode of Yorubaland and owner of Alaba Lawson Group of Schools affirmed that the South-West of the Institute is solidly behind the President and his team, adding that members are will actively involved as a team player in ensuring success of the leadership
