Impeachment saga: I remain speaker ogun state house of assembly, Oluomo declares
The impeached speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo on Friday declared that the actions of his colleagues hold no water, insisting that he remain the authentic speaker of the assembly.
Penpushing reports that Oluomo made the declaration at a press conference held at his official residence at the assembly quarters in Abeokuta, adding that he has equally approached the court to determine if his purported impeachment was constitutional, explaining that the case will be heard next month.
The embattled speaker said when he returned for second term in office, some of his colleagues have continued to terrorise him for no just cause, emphasizing that his purported impeachment did not follow due process, hence its illegal and cannot see the light of the day.
‘I remained speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly. Some members have continued to terrorise me after my emergence for second term as speaker. I have believe opinion that members have right to elect speaker, but due process must follow”, he stated.
Penpushing further reports that Oluomo said two of the lawmakers wrestled the mace from sergeant at arm, before forcing their way into the chambers to carry out the illegal impeachment,, arguing even if he was to be impeached, they ought to have served him impeachment notice.
The speaker pointed out it was ridiculous that after the purported impeachment, his colleagues later served him impeachment notice which he said he has swiftly responded to, emphasizing that he was ready to face panel to defend himself, just as he denied all allegations earlier raised against him by his colleagues
