Igbogila council of chiefs debunks claim of suspension of chiefs

The Council of Chiefs in Igbogila town in Ogun State on Tuesday faulted alleged suspension of five chiefs, including two kingmakers in the community, describing the claim in some quarters as false, arguing that such couldn’t have occurred under the late traditional ruler who was bedridden during the period.

Penpushing reports that Akogun of Igbogila, Chief Charles Olaotan, who led other leaders and elders to a press conference held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre Abeokuta declared that no chiefs were served with the suspension letters, as claimed by some people, adding that the said claim was a foul play

The Akogun reading out the press statement titled, “Selection and Appointment Of Candidate To Fill The Vacant Stool of Olu of Igbogila”, to journalists stated that the late royal father couldn’t have been the one who carried out the said suspension.

“Immediately these Chiefs were served with the said letter, the Council of Chiefs sensed a foul play with suspicion that the late Kabiyesi could not have been the one who carried out the suspension of these chiefs for the following reasons (i) that no chief has ever offended the late Kabiyesi and (ii) the fact that Kabiyesi was already bedridden”, he stated.

“True to the suspicion of the Council of Chiefs, it was discovered that Hon. Adegoke Olusesi Adeyanju (aka Awoso) in connivance with the immediate members of Kabiyesi family actually carried out the suspension as they were served on those chiefs by the members of the immediate past Oba’s family”.

Penpushing further reports that he disclosed that as a measure to establish criminal case which include forgery, the council of chiefs and the affected chiefs sent their letters to the Forensic Department (FCID), Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, for the forensic analysis to confirm the authenticity of the signatures on those letters, which actually confirmed by the department that those letters were actually forged.

The Akogun, alleged that, Adeyanju made several attempts towards having majority of the kingmakers, to his side to have their way in enthroning one of the them as the next Olu of Igbogila, describing the attempt as illegal and desecration of custom and tradition.

“Alade Olanloye, Akinlolu Waheed, Azeez Ogungbe and One Opebiyi Olubiyi were conferred with Chieftaincy titles of the kingmakers. All of these persons are from the same family, in fact, Alade Olanloye is a younger brother of the same father with Late Oba Ebenezer Olanloye, Akinlolu Waheed, and Azeez Ogungbe are cousins to the late Oba, while Opebiyi Olubiyi is an elder brother of the same father with one Daniel Opebiyi, one of the nominees to the throne backed by Hon. Awoso and the members of the family of the immediate past Oba”, he added

Penpushing also reports that the Council of Chiefs in regards recent protest by the youth in the community alleged Adeyanju of responsible, to bring down the community, towards his plans of enthroning a new monarch as the Olu of Igbogila.

“One would not be mistaken to think that Awoso was actually elected purposely on the assignment of enthroning a new Oba in Igbogila, as we believe he has absolutely, abandoned his legislative functions for an issue he has no role to play. It is important to bring it to the attention of the whole world that up till this moment, Awoso’s stock in trade against Igbogila Council of Chiefs are defamation, threat and abusive languages”.

Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that, the Igbogila community had last week Friday called on the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to intervene in the prolonged Obaship dispute that continues to threaten the peace and development of the town, during a peaceful protest staged by the youth group of the community.

The leader of the youth group, Chief (Mrs). Olushola Adebayo, speaking during the protest accused some suspended chiefs of orchestrating the prolonged delay in the installation of a new traditional ruler after demise of Oba Ebenezer Olanloye, alleging that the continued interference has plunged the town into crisis and underdevelopment.

Penpushing also reports that the Ogun State House of Assembly member representing Yewa North Constituency 1, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, while calling for intervention appealed to Governor Abiodun not to ignore the community’s plea.

“Although the matter is in court, it is getting out of hand. Those chiefs suspended by the late Oba should stay away. The paramount ruler of Yewaland, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs—all are aware of the suspension. For over three years now, we’ve been without a monarch, and it’s affecting our progress. Government alone can’t do it all’, he said
