Ogun state traditional ruler, Oba Ogunleye pays condolence visit to Shonekan’s family

The traditional ruler of Akinale of Owu kingdom, Egbaland, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye on Monday paid a condolence visit to widow and children of late former Head of  Interim National Government (ING) in Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

Penpushing reports that Ogunleye who was welcome to the Ikoyi residence of the deceased in Lagos by the family, while speaking said Sonekan’s life and times must be preserved for unborn generations, describing him as a quintessential business and political leader in Nigeria and the commonwealth nations.

The  Towulade Akinale, a veteran journalist turned monarch recalled that as a small boy in school, he was tutored about the life and times of Royal Niger Company and the likes of Toubman Goldie and Lord Fredrick Lugard.

The royal father added that Shonekan who was saddled with development of the continental business conglomerate known as the United African Company (UAC) and later Head of Nigerian government, must remain a reference point in the history of the nation.

Penpushing also reports that, still on the condolence message on the passing on of the elder statesman and Babasale of Egbaland, Ogunleye extolled the high qualities of Sonekan, emphasising that, he had paid his dues to the nation
