I am taking my music to world stage soon, says female musician, Yetty sing-great

Yetunde Oriyomi Ogunseye is a popular female musician with stage name ‘Yetty Sing- Great” whose styles of music include: highlife, Fuji and Hip-Hop and is now set to hit  the world entertainment industry with her new album to be unveil latest in December.

Penpushing reports that, the Abeokuta born musician in this exclusive interview narrated her journey into the entertainment world which she started at age 10, as young choir at Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

The household name musician with ten male band boys said she was optimistic of taking her music to greater level inspite of challenges associated with the profession, adding that she love music with passion

Penpushing further reports that, Yetty Sing-great said her passion for music is a talent, adding that when she eventually ventured into full music in 2003, her parents threw their weight behind her because they are aware that, she loves music dearly

‘I do circular music and I sing juju, highlife, Fuji and hiphop I believe it is talent because .I started singing from the age of 10, from a church as a young choir from then I keep loving music more and more, but professionally I started singing in 2003 from C&S Church (AYO NI)

‘My parents supported me because they know I love singing right from my little age, they love what I do and they gave me their blessings likewise a lot of encouragement from them’, she emphasised

The accounting graduate of Kwara State Polytechnic turned musician disclosed that her first record labels include: Ojasope which was released in 2010, while the second one is titled ‘Gbagbe Bo se Sele ( GBS), boasting that on or before December she would unveil another album

Penpushing also reports that, reacting on the notion that, music profession is attributed to men, who is eighteen years in the profession argued that, it is about talent, adding that, ‘what a man can do woman can do better’, hence, she cannot afford to be sidelined

‘Music is generally believed to be men’s profession but there is an adage that says what a man can do a woman can do better and I believe if the talent is there,it doesn’t really matter the sex, the talent is there, you utilize it, then all you have to do is bring the best out of it’, she posited .

The singer whose initial plan was to be a lawyer before finding love in music spoke about challenges in the music industry, which she said she did not allow to derail her, rather toughened her to progress.

‘My challenges. There are a lot of things that came my way, sometimes we get disappointed by the way fans sees lady musicians but once you are self discipline and at the same time you have good PR you can manage it, that is one of my challenges. Secondly these days’ promoters of entertainment are not like before you have to do all things by yourself now in the field’

Penpushing reports that, Sing-great also shared experience how she handles street urchins popularly called, ’area boys’, when she has outings, adding that, the fact remains that, musicians cannot do away with them

‘Such do happen, you just try to give them good PR because they can be nasty at times because we can’t do without them , they reveal us to the masses ,we just have to deal with it. My aim and objectives as a musician is getting to the top and maintaining the top. I want to take my music to a greater height’, she emphasised

The female musician also recalled one of her nasty experiences from a music promoter, which she said she had to use wisdom to escape the pranks of the ‘randy’ promoter, who got music show for her; only to use is as bait to sleep with her.

‘I have never been frustrated but I have been once harassed years back, he actually said he would like to promote me and wish we could have a meeting. Fine I went and after the meeting I asked for my reservation, surprisingly the man said the reservation he made was just one for the two of us. Am not really happy with that, but I just have to portray a good PR. I got myself out later, instead of complying’, she said.

The famous lady musician while speaking on the current music by the youths, considered as immoral, said  some musicians believes that this is the trend in the new generation, hence, their decisions to fall in line.

‘But as for me if I would  be producing any song, that song must have a meaning and messages it gives out and also swags but as a musician we don’t always have the same thinking. I don’t engage my band members to be girls. I have 15 band boys and they understand my language so I prefer the boys to girls’

Penpushing further reports that, she disclosed her plan to embark on Europe, America and Asia tour very soon, adding that her music has so far taken her to larger percentage of the states in Nigeria, as well to Ghana and Benin Republic.

‘I have had some nice time with promoters and nasty ones too even in the society we have different type of people, so have met with different kinds. Some are honest, some are not and sometimes they don’t know what promotion is all about’.

Penpushing also reports that, Sing-great frowned at the piracy in the music industry, appealing to Nigerian government to come the musicians aid, so that they don’t labour in vain at all time, lamenting that the pirates smiles to bank while musicians swim in poverty

‘I believe with time and with our government we will overcome piracy but definitely now we can’t just overlook piracy .there is piracy everywhere but I know one day Nigeria is gonna be fine .With our government we can overcome piracy ,even in the film industry there is piracy’,

The ever smiling musician, on whether she could encourage her child/children to venture into music said she would be willing if such child is talented in the area, just as she called on the upcoming musicians to be determined and focused

The mother of two equally frowned at drugs associated with musicians and other entertainers in the entertainment world, arguing that with talents they need no drugs to aid their performances on stage or at ant shows.

‘Yeah I have seen a lot of musicians involved in drugs, but you don’t have to be on drugs ,intoxicated, high before singing I believe it should be natural when you have the talent .Some believe if they are not high they can’t sing’

Penpushing also reports that, she called on the various music associations to be under one umbrella in organizing regular workshops and trainings for musicians and other entertainers in the entertainment world to address the danger associated with drugs addiction

‘I think that’s a good idea, I believe there should be something like workshop, because if my senior colleagues that we look up to in the industry can have a workshop or they should do something like. I believe it will work out someday’

The musician who said she was not born with a silver spoon, said that, she also added comedy to her performances, explaining that she crack jokes into his music while singing to make it more lively.

Penpushing further reports that, the last born of four family, who was brought up in Lagos declared that, if she has opportunity to still come back to this world, she would still prefer to be a musician

The musician expressed optimism about her music career, but recalled that she was shy during her first public show when she saw large crowd, adding that at a point she had to encourage herself to avoid being timid, but said today she is bold as a lion facing the crowd.

‘My first show was a very big experience the confidence was not enough, I was so shy because it was a wedding ceremony with large crowd and guests. I was scared but with the help of my friends and after like two hours I kept singing. If I have the opportunity to come back to this world again I’d go back into music because I love music with passion, she stated
