I am a world leader and not sectional leader, says Obasanjo
The Nigeria’s former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has affirmed that he is a world leader by right, and should not be seen as a sectional leader in Nigeria, as been expected by some individuals in Nigeria, his country of birth.
Penpushing reports that Obasanjo made this clear on Thursday at the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Service organized for him by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which took place at the Marquee Events Centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOP), Abeokuta
The renowned leader explained that it would be wrong to see him as Yoruba leader, recalling that as a President while in office, he controls the entire country and not a section or ethnic, explaining that he is a Nigerian- Yoruba.
Penpushing further reports that he emphasized that by his position then, he was Nigerian President, not either Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa President, stressing that Yorubaness should not be the way of Nigerians, adding that by virtue of his position he is African leader and a world leader
The former President who equally faulted claims from section that he is an Igboman, explained that such was fake news emanated from mischievous characters, emphasisng that his parents are from Owu in Yorubaland, and therefore remain a Yorubaman
‘They said I am an Igbo man. I don’t know where they get that. My father is Owu and my mother as well. I am a Yoruba. To get Nigeria on the right part, we must be national and not ethnic, if we can talk of Pan Africanism, we must be able to talk PanNigeriasim’, Obasanjo emphasized
Penpushing also reports the former President who expressed appreciation to the Christian Association (CAN) for organizing the events, pointed out that for been alive till date, he would continue to give thanksgiving to God for sparing his life.
‘For this thanksgiving, if there is a man who is alive today and must give thanksgiving to God, it is me. He has spared my life till date and I will continue to give thanksgiving to Him. I also appreciate Christiaan Association of Nigeria for organizing the programme
