Gunmen behead former lawmaker in Anambra state
Gunmen have beheaded a former lawmaker Nelson Achukwu, from Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State in Anambra State, who the bandits earlier accused of providing information to military authorities.
Penpushing reports that, Achukwu, a physically-challenged person had earlier been abducted a few months ago by gunmen, but later released after his abductors realised he was not guilty of the allegation.
The former lawmaker was again abducted three weeks ago from his house in the Mkpor community, and was beheaded after his family reportedly paid N15 million as ransom to the abductors, while his corpse was later found at riverside.
Penpushing further reports that, Achukwu represented Nnewi South 2 Constituency in the state assembly during the administration of former governor, Chris Ngige, while he is the owner of Nelly Oil and Gas Filling Station in Utuh, another community in the council area before his death.
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, adding that the deceased remains were found on Tuesday between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor Communities in the council area.
“His decapitated body was found at the back of Ulasi Rivers and was quickly buried by the family on Tuesday evening as the body was already decomposing. Efforts were being made to rescue him (from his abductors) before this unfortunate development’,Ikenga said.
Penpushing also reports that, the police spokesperson said the authorities would not relent in investigating the incident and assured that the suspects would be tracked down, however it is on record that Anambra State has witnessed some of the worst attacks in the region.
