Gunmen ambush peoples democratic party vice presidential candidate security team, kill three police officers

Gunmen have attacked the advance security team of Vice Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ifeanyi Okowa and killed three police officers in Ihiala, a community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State

Penpushing reports that sources said the officers were en route to Abia State, ahead of Okowa scheduled meeting with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the state ahead of the 25 February presidential election.

The three policemen were said to have been ambushed during the attack which occurred on Friday at about 1.30pm, but as at the time of filing this report it was not clear if Okowa, who is the Governor of Delta State was travelling with the officers during the attack.

Penpushing further reports that the gunmen were said to have freed one of the officers who was not in a police uniform during the attack, while the slain officers were identified as Celestine Nwadiokwu, Jude Obuh and Lucky Aleh, an inspector.

The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted on Saturday confirmed the incident adding that the victims were officers attached to the Explosives Ordinance Department of the Delta State Police Command and were on an official assignment for the state government.

“The officers came under attack and their vehicle was set ablaze by some yet-to-be-identified armed men. Efforts are currently ongoing in tracking down the armed men that committed this act’, the police spokesman said.

Penpushing also reports that Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police said the Anambra State Police Command  have recovered the bodies of the three slain officers following receipt information about the attack.
