
Gunmen abduct electoral commission chairman
Gunmen have abducted the chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof George Chima on Friday from his residence in Okigwe in Imo State, while having a meeting with some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu.
Penpushing reports that, sources said, the hoodlums, suspected to be kidnappers numbering about four, chased the visitors before abducting the professor from his private home located on Okigwe local government area which shares boundaries with Uturu, a community in Abia State.
The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye when contacted on Friday evening confirmed the development adding that the Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered operation to track down the abductors and rescue the victim.
Penpushing further reports that Okoye, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, gave assurance that the police operatives will in a matter of time arrest the fleeing suspected kidnappers.
