Gunmen abduct 70 travellers in Kaduna state

Gunmen have abducted over 70 travellers, majority said to be traders, around Udawa village after Buruku in Chikun Local Government Area of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State.

Penpushing reports that, an eyewitness account as at the time of this reports said the vehicles conveying the travellers, were attacked by gunmen suspected to be bandits in their large number, adding that the victims were later taken into the forest .

The Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, in reaction said the operatives of the Buruku Divisional Police station, who were escorting passengers along the road, came under attack by an unspecified number of gunmen, who opened fire on the moving vehicles

Penpushing further reports that Jalige added that the police operatives successfully repelled the attack through superior firepower, before rescuing 48 of the passengers, and that there was no casualty on the part of the police operatives and the attackers

Meanwhile, the police spokesman explained and insisted that 48 victims were later rescued adding that those rescued were in good health and later continued their journey, as at the time of filing this report
