Governor Yusuf’s first major official assignment is demolition of 90 shops on government land

The first major assignment of the newly sworn-in Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, six days after his inauguration was the demolition of a three-storey building with 90 shops, located on a race course at Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Nasarawa.

Penpushing reports that the buildings said to be on government land was sold by the immediate past administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, while the demolished shops are said to be an extension of the race course field.

The incumbent Governor as at the time of the Saturday demolition exercise and filing this reports was yet to officially speak on the matter, but was said to be present during the demolition exercise and led  by the police commissioner, Muhammed Gumel.

Penpushing further reports that the Governor had earlier promised to demolish structures erected on government land sold by his predecessor, but as at the time of this report, owners of the said property could not be established.

The Kano State Government in a related development  has banned indiscriminate outdoor advertising and pasting of posters on walls of public and private buildings in the state, with declaration that a task force would be set up to ensure compliance.

Penpushing also reports that this was made known in a statement by Press Secretary to the Governor, Bature Tofa, explain that the measure became necessary because of the rampant defacing of walls and other public properties by politicians.

The statement however advised individuals and entities to use billboards and electronic means for poster display so as to keep the state clean and beautiful, emphasizing that as  directed by Governor Yusuf Abba, officials of the Ministry of Environment and State Fire Service have been going round the streets in Kano metropolis to remove all posters.
