Retired Inspectors General of Police to hold retreat on effective policing in Nigeria

The Committee of Retired Inspectors-General of Police (IGPs) have concluded arrangement to organize a retreat with focus on effective policing of Nigeria, scheduled to hold from 21 August to 23 August 2023 in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital

Penpushing reports that the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Friday said the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde is to host the retreat

The statement explained that the retreat would take place at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, adding that the theme is “Intervention of Ex-Inspectors General of Police For Strategic Contribution To Effective Policing In Nigeria”.

Penpushing further reports that Ani said participants would brainstorm on effective policing in Nigeria, adding that dignitaries expected at the retreat are all retired Inspectors General of Police, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase and the acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.

The statement said papers to be presented at the retreat are Current State of Police Preparedness; Issues, Challenges and Prospects as well as Strategic actions and steps towards restoring NPF’s primacy in internal security architecture of Nigeria.

Penpushing also reports that Ani said the discussion and experience-sharing session on the imperativeness of employing the experiential knowledge of the retired Inspectors General of Police in the effective management of internal security in Nigeria would be part of the retreat.

Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission spokesperson in the statement equally added that  Aliyu Attah, a retired Inspector General of Police, and the chairman of the committee is the convener of the retreat.
