Nigerian football legend and former captain of the soccer squad Segun Odegbami has lost his son Oluwagbeminiyi, a sad development shared on his (Odegbami) facebook page, while the family has been inundated with condolences.
Penpushing reports that the bereaved father in a heartfelt tribute on his Facebook page titled ‘Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami – The Gentle Pilgrim Returns Home!”, lamented that the thought of writing about his late son in the past tense was utterly incomprehensible
‘The thought of writing about Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami in the past tense is utterly incomprehensible,” the football legend wrote, his words heavy with emotion, Odegbami wrote in the tribute.
Penpushing further reports that he recounted how, brimming with creativity just a day before Good Friday, Oluwagbeminiyi messaged him seeking guidance on their documentary project, and in response urged him to press forward with his ideas.
The former soccer warlord described the deceased as a gifted, multi-talented young man whose abilities extended far beyond the realm of the documentary, and lauded his writing skills, poetic lyricism, rapping talent, captivating elocution, and unique culinary expertise.
‘These gifts resided within this unassuming young man who preferred a simple, secluded life, content with his spartan existence and unbothered by the chaos of the world around him’, the bereaved father wrote.
Penpushing also reports that Odegbami said the seemingly ordinary day took a tragic turn just four hours after their communication, adding that a flurry of phone calls shattered his world, explaining that Oluwagbeminiyi was unwell, rushed to a hospital, and referred to another., while his condition rapidly deteriorated.

Penpushing reports that the bereaved father consumed by grief, lamented that these agonising questions remained unanswered, and finding solace in faith, Odegbami drew comfort in believing that Oluwagbeminiyi’s spirit joined those who came before him on Good Friday.
The bereaved father who owns a private sports radio station located in Abeokuta, his hometown of Ogun State envisioned his son’s sins washed away on the cross of Calvary, his soul now resting peacefully with the Creator, adding that this belief has become his solace, and that the gentle soul has finally free from the burdens of a world he couldn’t control
