Father, son allegedly beat neighbour’s wife to death over sales of ponmo
A 54-year-old man, Chizoke Obiadada, and his 17-year-old son have allegedly beaten to death their neighbour’s wife following uncontrollable anger from an argument which led to the unfortunate incident over sales of animal skin known as ponmo.
Penpushing reports that the incident occurred in Ogijo town of Ogun State, when the victim, 43-year-old Tope Owoade had resisted the suspects from sitting on her work table used in selling the animal skin, a development which resulted in a misunderstanding which later led to her death,
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident disclosed in a statement on Saturday that following report lodged by the deceased husband, Isiaka Owoade at Ogijo Divisional Police headquarters the suspects were arrested on Friday.
Penpushing further reports that Odutola explained that the bereaved husband explained that his neighbours beat up his wife adding that his wife was thereafter taken to two private hospitals where she was rejected.
“The victim tried to prevent her neighbours from sitting on her work table, and this resulted in a misunderstanding which later led to her death. Owoade narrated that on Friday when he returned from a journey, his late wife informed him that on Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. their neighbours, a father and son, beat her mercilessly and inflicted injuries on her’, Odutola added.
‘He said his wife was beaten because she cautioned the duo against sitting on the work table she used in selling edible animal skin. He added that the beating later resulted in her bleeding severely from the womb and in her private part. He further stated that his wife, however, gave up the ghost while she was being taken to a government hospital’, she said
Penpushing also reports that Odutola explained that immediately the report was received, the Divisional Police Officer of Ogijo arrested the culprits disclosing that both suspects (father and son) were currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
The police spokesperson explained that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation, stressing that as at the time of filing this report efforts were ongoing to deposit the deceased’s remains at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for post-mortem examination.
