Jigawa state court sentences rapist to life imprisonment
A 27-year old man, Suleiman Ahmed, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Jigawa State High Court sitting in Dutse, for raping 11 year old girl, who he lured into an uncompleted building to commit the crime
Penpushing reports that, Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry of Justice Zainab Baba-Santali, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, while in similar vein, the court sentenced another person it found guilty of the same crime to 21 years in jail and acquitted another suspect.
The spokesperson of the state Ministry of Justice, said Ahmed, of Lutai village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state, committed the crime on March 15 last year in Babaldu town.
Penpushing further reports that, the spokesman said the prosecution, led by the state Attorney-General, Musa Aliyu, presented four witnesses after the defendant denied the charges,adding that the witnesses included two of the girl’s friends.
The witnesses who testified that they saw the convict taking the victim into the uncompleted building said they had followed them, only to see him sexually abusing the girl.
The trial judge, Justice Musa Ubale, in his judgement declared that the prosecution proved their case beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
