Emergency treatment room of Federal medical centre Abeokuta shut over coronavirus case
The Emergency Treatment Room(ETR) of the Federal Medical Centre(FMC) located in Idi-Aba area of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital has been shut following discovery of two coronavirus patients in the hospital.
Penpushing reports that, the discovery has caused apprehension among the staff of the hospital, as findings also showed that all patients earlier admitted in the Emergency Treatment Room(ETR) have been evacuated
.
The two discovered coronavirus patients included; a male, and another pregnant woman reported to have died following implication of the virus,while as at the time of filing this report, the male victim was reported to have been referred to isolation centre in Ikenne.
Penpushing further reports that during a check on Sunday morning at the hospital, sources informed that arrangements were ongoing to contact the coronavirus response team for the fumigation of the hospital, while the staff are to undergo compulsory coronavirus test.
The staff apprehension became more pronounced, when they later realised that, the male patient had earlier before his result came out, he was noticed to have been innocently moving to some other departments for other transactions, which include payment and purchase of drugs
Penpushing also reports that,the medical staff of the Emergency Treatment Room of the institution were seen waiting outside the premises awaiting the response of the Ministry of Health officials, task with responsibility of fumigation, as at the time of Penpushing check at the hospital.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Segun Orisajo when contacted said a comprehensive reports on the development will be made public before the end of the day,adding that official statement will also be made available to to journalists as soon as the management approves.
The Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, Dr Tommy Coker was not responding to several calls put across to her, nor respond to the message of enquiry sent to her as at the time of filing this report on Sunday morning.
