Refuse, destitutes take over Abeokuta pedestrian bridge

The multi-million naira pedestrian bridge located in the Ibara-Panseke axis, commercial nerve of Abeokuta, in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State has now been turned into a refuse dump.

Penpushing reports that, the longest pedestrian bridge constructed by the immediate past administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, has also become the abode for number of destitutes and social miscreants.

The investigation conducted by Penpushing reporter also revealed that, the bridge meant for easy access for residents and passerby to avoid collusion with vehicles and motorists is now gradually becoming unhealthy for residents, following heap of refuse deposited there by unknown persons.

Penpushing reports further that, as at the time of filing this report, the officials of the Ministries of Environment and Health were not forthcoming to address the health hazard being constituted by the waste.

However, number of residents of the area who spoke with Penpushing expressed disappointment over the non-challance of the authorities responsible for the care and monitoring of the pedestrian bridge, stressing that, if needful is not done, there may be outbreak of diseases in the town.

‘This is dangerous for all residents, see the heap of refuse, and see number of destitute who now sleep there, yet  there are Ministries of Environment and Health. The officials also resident in this town, yet they are looking as if nothing is happening’, a resident who kept identity lamented
