Egba science foundation set for Tunde Abudu maiden annual lecture

The Egba Science Education Foundation has announced the take off of maiden edition of Olatunde Abudu annual lecture of a foundation,in his honour, scheduled to hold on March 15,2022 in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

Penpushing reports that, the Vice Chairman of the foundation, Dr Funmilayo Alatise made this known at a press conference explaining that the foundation has, came up with several programmes such as remedial programme for SS3 students and scholarship programme for students in higher institutions through which its supports science education in the educational sector.

The Vice Chairman of the foundation, said the  theme of this year’s lecture is “The Impact of Science And Technology on Agriculture”,adding that the theme was considered suitable for the lecture to educate students and other expected participants on the importance of Science and Technology in today’s Agriculture practices as well as re-emphasized the need for government to diversify the economy into agriculture.

Penpushing further reports that, Alatise regretted that the foundation was in the past accustomed to donating laboratory eqiupment to government secondary schools in different local governments of the state but stopped the donation when there were no science teachers to operate them.

The Vice chairman recalled  that the foundation had since, complained to the state government adding that the current administration is taking necessary measures to end the narrative,disclosing that the Egba Science Education was set up in 2022 to promote science education in public secondary schools as well as help students deficiencies in science related subjects.

“Over the years, we have equipped science laboratories in government schools in Abeokuta. When we found out that despite equipping those schools with science laboratory equipments, there were no science teachers to operate them. The equipments cost millions of naira but they became useless due to lack of science teachers”, she said.

Penpushing also reports that she explained that the foundation has, due to the narrative, came up with several programmes such as remedial programme for SS3 students and scholarship programme for students in higher institutions through which its supports science education in the educational sector.

“We have stopped equipping laboratories and went into remedial programme for SS3 students and scholarship programme for University students across the nation for more than 10 years now. We select student from each secondary School through aptitude test. We have a minimum of 50 beneficiaries annually and for the scholarship programme, we select two student form each university cross the country. We strictly select only students who are Egba indigenes.

Meanwhile, the university don  also explained that the annual lecture was conceived out of need the to honour the founder of the foundation, Olatunde Abudu.
