Death toll rises to 85 in Mangu local government area of Plateau state
The Tuesday attacks on Fungzai and Kubwat villages in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has so far claimed 85 lives, but as at the time of filing this report the State Command of the Police was yet to give the casualty figure of the incident.
Penpushing reports that National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Joseph Gwankat, made this known to journalists after a security meeting at the palace of the Mishkcham Mwaghavul of Mangu, John Hirse.
The Association President added that the search for missing persons was still ongoing in the affected communities, as at the time of this report, pointing out that several communities were attacked simultaneously by suspected herdsmen, leading to killings as well as burning of houses and the destruction of farmlands.
Penpushing further reports that the traditional ruler of Mangu in companied the local government chairman and district heads from the communities, appealed for the deployment of reinforcements to the communities to safeguard citizens.
The findings, however, showed that during the meeting, some women protesting the killings besieged the palace of the traditional ruler, while those in attendance include the Deputy Governor of the state, Soni Tyoden, security chiefs, district heads and other government officials.
Penpushing also reports that sources disclosed that following the sad incidents 57 victims from a community in Mangu were buried on Wednesday amidst tears by relatives and members of the community.
