Daughter set mother ablaze over allegation of being behind her life predicaments

A 45-year-old woman has set ablaze her 86-year-old mother at Surulere, opposite the Anglican Cathedral Church in the Ondo West local government area of Ondo State, who she alleged to be responsible for her life predicaments.

Penpushing reports that the aged mother known as Iya Biodun was rushed to trauma centre of the School of Medical Sciences in Ondo, for treatment but reportedly died thereafter, as confirmed by the Ondo State Police Command.

The daughter of the aged woman allegedly committed the act at about 5 a.m. on Friday while the victim was asleep, as she also confessed carrying out the crime during investigation by the police, stressing that she was of the conviction that the only way to overcome her plights was to kill her mother

Penpushing further reports that the suspect in her confessional statement disclosed that she called her mther out of the house at about 5am and set her ablaze because of what she heard from a prophet that she was behind her problems.

‘I faced so many life problems until a prophet told her that my mother was responsible for my challenges. I called my mother out of the house around 5 a.m. and set her ablaze because of what I heard, that she’s behind my problems’, the suspect emphasized.

Penpushing also reports that a witness, Sola Oladele, in her account explained that the suspect came to the house on Friday around 5 a.m. and called out her mother before pouring petrol on her and setting her on fire.

The witness said the neighbours could not ascertain what happened between the suspect and victim before the incident, affirming that the daughter, as at the time of filing this report has been arrested by police at the Enu-Owa division for further investigation.

Penpushing reports that the Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, adding that it was the Divisional Police Officer of the station who broke the hews to her, assuring that the suspect would be charged in court as soon as possible.
