Crimes commission seizes Obiano’s international passport as one of bail conditions
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized the international passport of former Governor Willie Obiano, of Anambra State, as one of the conditions to release him on bail.
Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that Obiano, was on his way out of the country, barely few hours after he handed over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo, and was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The embattled former Governor said to had been on the watchlist since November last year was arrested over corruption allegations and transported to the headquarters of the commission in Abuja.
Penpushing further reports that, while in custody, a 12-second video of Obiano also went viral, seen in shorts and a white shirt, drinking water from a bottle in a closed room presumed to be in agency custody.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) later disclosed that, its official behind the leakage had been identified, and being subjected to appropriate disciplinary action, while the development elicited reactions
Penpushing also reports that, Head Media and Publicity of the Commission was quoted saying that, Obiano was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including, N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote which was withdrawn in cash.
The allegation further has it that, part of the funds was also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state,, but as at the time of filing this report, no further details were released by the commission
