Court grants Emefiele bail

The High Court sitting in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, granted bail to the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, ordering that he should be released to his counsel.

Penpushing reports that the judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola in a ruling in a fundamental rights enforcement suit which Emefiele filed to challenge his almost five-month-long detention, added that the accused must be produced in court when needed, and also ordered him to submit all his travel documents to the court’s registrar.

The former boss of the Apex bank has been in detention since 10 June, when he was arrested in Lagos by the State Security Service (SSS), and he is said to be facing investigations, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took over from the State Security Service (SSS), over multidimensional corruption allegations against him.
