Court dissolves 20-year marriage over alleged drunkenness, threat to life

The Magistrate and Grade 1 Customary Court, sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital has dissolved 20-year marriage between Mrs. Abosede Salako and her husband, Mr. Seyi Salako, over allegations of drunkenness, neglect, and threats to life.
Penpushing reports that the wife in a petition told the court that she moved out of the matrimonial home in May 2025 after enduring years of hardship and threats from her husband, whom she described as a habitual drunkard.
The petitioner explained that she had sought reconciliation through family and friends, but all efforts failed, and also alleged that her husband not only failed to care for her and the children but also threatened to harm her if she appeared in public.
Penpushing further reports that she prayed the court for custody of the children, financial support, and an order restricting her husband from her home, workplace, or place of worship, assuring that she was ready to take full responsibility of the children, if granted her divorce request.
The woman who has three children Ayomide (14), Toyin (12) and Salako Eniola (9) from the marriage, equally prayed the court that only a divorce of the marriage will protect herself from further harassment from the husband.
Penpushing also reports that the court noted that despite being served, the defendant consistently failed to appear before the court to defend himself, hence, the marriage was terminated.
The panel led by Oluwafadekemi Okusanya alongside Mr. Temitayo Odunsi and Chief Mrs. Abidemi Adeyemi in the judgment dissolved the marriage and ordered the embattled husband to restrict himself from visiting the home of the woman, workplace, place of worship and avoid causing any form of disturbance.
“The 20-year marriage between the two parties is hereby dissolved, and they are free to go their separate ways,” the president declared.
