Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority approves gateway airport for commercial flight operations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved operations of commercial flights at Gateway International Agro-cargo Airport, located in Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that the approval is said to be in line with part 12, 15, 17 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) granted an interim aerodrome operational permit to operate scheduled commercial air transport flights at airport.
The statement made available to journalists stated that passengers’ flights are to be launch, starting with directs routes to Abuja and Portharcourt, adding that in similar vein, a major international aviation company is expected to operate two weekly cargo flights from London to the airport.
Penpushing further reports that the statement explained that this will equally serve as the designated alternate airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, stressing that the move is expected to boost trade, investment and tourism in Ogun State
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) alongside Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Nigerian Meteoroligical Agency (NIMET) in December had visited the airport, appraising the quality of facilities put in place, as well as level of completion.
Penpushing also reports that the regulatory agencies in the aviation industry affirmed the airport as world-standard and a source of pride for Ogun State, noting that its infrastructures, including the Control Tower, Weather Monitoring Areas, Runway, Fire Service Stations, and Apron, could rival similar facilities globally, ranking among the best in West Africa.
The Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) represented by Ango Mohammed, observed significant improvements in the airport’s facilities since his previous visit, remarking that the control tower now matched the standards of similar towers at major airports worldwide.
