Coronavirus: new inmates of ogun state correctional centre must possess medical certificate of fitness, says comptroller

The authorities of Correctional Centre in Ogun State has declared that, henceforth it will not accommodate suspects from the police until when such suspects are certify with a medical certificate of fitness that they are free from coronavirus symptoms.

Penpushing reports that, the Comptroller Victor Benson, made this known as a condition adding that the decision was aimed at keeping the custodial centres in the state free from the pandemic, adding that same applied to those convicted by courts.

The Comptroller emphasied that the custodial centres do not want new inmates to infect those in their custody with the virus, disclosing that an agreement has been reached with Ogun State Government towards this in admitting new convicts and suspects referred by courts into their custody.

Penpushing further reports that, Benson explained that under the agreement, the state’s Attorney General will ensure that all the new inmates being brought into the custody of the correctional centres are coronavirus negative.
