Coronavirus: Iyalode Alaba Lawson equips journalists, other Ogun state residents with facemasks

The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson has equipped journalists in Ogun State with facemasks, as part of measures to prevent them from contracting the ravaging coronavirus which necessitated the lockdown order.

Penpushing reports that, Lawson who has been the matron of the union for over thirty years made the presentation to the Caretaker Chairman of the body, Omolola Adeyinka at the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta.

The gestures were also extended to other organisations, including market women among others  who were represented by their leadership to avoid crowd at the venue, and for onward transmission to their members which cut across the state.

Penpushing reports that, Lawson said decision to equip journalists and other residents was borne out of the directive by government, that effective from May 1, all residents must compulsorily put on masks to avoid the spread of the deadly virus.

‘When I heard in the news  that everybody by  May 1, must wear facemasks, and I said, well what can I do as my humble contribution, to my people, I first though of journalists ,and reason why I have chosen the journalists, because of the nature of their job’,she explained

Penpushing further reports that, Iyalode expressed appreciation to journalists for adequate reportage of coronavirus, stressing that, the reports have contributed to curtail of the spread, and brought to limelight the affected  which facilitated adequate treatment of the patients.

The donor appealed to Nigerians, on the need to adhere strictly to the rules guiding against the spread of the killer virus, stressing that, coronavirus is real, and should be prevented at all cost, in the interest of all and sundry.

Penpushing also reports that, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Mrs Omolola Adeyinka, expressed appreciation to the donor, affirming that, she (Lawson)remained the only patron of the union, who has been there for journalits in last thirty years.

I just want to appreciate her because she has been there for us. Anytime, we call on her, she has always been answering us, and we shall judiciously make use of the facemasks. Once again, journalits in the state appreciates our mother, Iyalode of Yorubaland’,Adeyinka emphasised
