Collecting transport fare for dates, without showing up is criminal offence which attracts jail term, Police warn women
The Police Command has explained that women collecting transport fare from men and failing to turn up for meetings commit a criminal offence under 419 criminal code and risk jail term if prosecuted.
Penpushing reports that Police Public Relations Officer of River State Command Grace Iringe-Koko, made this clear in a viral video, stressing that the practice amounted to fraud and could attract punishment under the law.
The police spokesperson warned against the rising trend of the crime adding that such actions fall under the category of obtaining by false pretence, noting that offenders could be arrested and prosecuted if complaints are lodged with the police.
“Why will you collect money from man without going to see him. It is an offence, a punishable offence. It is obtaining money under false pretence. 419,” she explained.
Penpushing further reports that Iringe-Koko in the video urged members of the public to avoid deceitful financial dealings and equally advised the women in the habit to desist in their own interest
