Bandits blow off bridge in Zamfara state, many feared dead
Bandits on Wednesday blew off Gadar Mailamba (Mailamba Bridge) in Tashar Sahabi in Maru local government area of Zamfara State, resulting in the death of occupants in an overloaded Golf car to Gusau.
Penpushing reports that sources said the incident occurred at about 8am, adding that in similar development the bandits planted an explosive which blown off another bridge in the area on Sunday after an attack by the outlaws was repelled in Unguwar Galadima in the same local government area.
The source who is a resident Nuhu Babangida, said the bandits were attacking communities around Dansadau emirate to avenge the killing of their leader, Sani Black, in September by local vigilantes, adding that as at the time of filing this report security agents and members of the National Union of Road Transporters Workers (NURTW) were in Tashar Sahabi were working to recover the bodies of victims.
Penpushing further reports that Black was one of the pioneers of terrorism in Zamfara and a protege of the late Tsoho Buhari and a close associate of the late Halilu Sububu, who was also killed in an ambush on September 13, 2024.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report the Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer Yazeed Abubakar, said he was still awaiting a briefing on the worrisome development.
