Bandits abduct 17, kill 13 in Katsina state

Bandits on Tuesday allegedly abducted seventeen, killed thirteen and wounded eight residents of Batsari town which shares boundaries with Rugu forest and Jibia of Katsina state

Penpushing reports that, the Kastina State Police Command Public Relations Gambo Isa confirmed the incident and said 11 people were killed but residents of the town said the number has risen to 13 as at the time of filing this report.

The member representing Batsari at the State House of Assembly, Hon Jabir Yau Yau, also confirmed the attack but said he could not ascertain number of casualties as the time he was contacted, having not been to the affected town.

Penpushing further reports that, a resident of the town, Abubakar Bishir, however said the dead were buried at the Batsari graveyard around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, emphasizing that the bandits killed 13 people.

The police spokesman disclosed that the bandits came in large number, when numbers of worshippers were still in the mosque for evening prayers, adding that on arrival the bandits embarked on sporadic shooting

“They came when some people were still in the mosque for the evening prayers. They came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically. 11 people were killed while eight were wounded in the attack,” he said.

Penpushing also reports that, another  resident, Mukhtar Mamman,in his account  said the bandits’ attack lasted several hours, adding that because of lack of access to the network residents of the town could not get help from security operatives.

‘Because of the lack of access to the network, our people in the town could not seek security agents’ assistance, which made the bandits have a field day. They went from house to house, looting goods especially foodstuff. They also abducted about 13 people, mostly women, who they found hiding in their houses”, he said
