Provision of water should be focal government policy, says water engineers

The Nigeria Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE),Ogun State Chapter on Tuesday  joined the world to celebrate 2022 Water Day, stressing that provision of water should be a focal government policy for the next decade.

Penpushing reports that, the ceremony was held at the ASUSS Hall located along Moshood Abiola Way, Abeokuta with a call on need that ground water must be thoroughly explored, analyzed, monitored and regulated.

The Chairman of the Institution, Engr. S. Adetola Onososen in his speech noted that ground water is a hidden treasure, stressing that .water sustains ecosystem, maintain river base flow, prevent land subsidence and sea water intrusion.

Penpushng further reports that, Onososen explained that, need to sustain ground water stability can no longer be overlooked, and therefore should be regulated

“It also sustain ecosystem, maintain base flows, prevent land subsidence and sea water intrusion, these vast potential of groundwater and the need to manage it sustainability can no longer be over looked’, he said.

‘It should be reassured from mismanagement and vulnerability to pollution and depletion. Therefore ground water must be thoroughly and explored analyzed, monitored and regulated” ,Onososen added said.

Penpushing also reports that, the institution boss said water is not a push aside social problem but a major natured concerning a state of emergency, adding that accessible clean water is possible for all Nigerians and should be a key focal point for the government policy for the next decade.
