Ogun Government quarantines 28 persons who had contacts with Italian Coronavirus patient

The Ogun State Government said it has identified twenty-eight persons who had contact with the Italian confirmed  as first victim of  corona virus in Nigeria and who was reported to had been at a manufacturing company in the State.

Penpushing reports that, Governor Dapo Abiodun made the disclosure Friday at a press conference held  in his office  in Abeokuta to give update on the development, explaining  that the twenty-eight persons had equally being quarantined for proper medical attention

The Governor accompanied by Health Commissioner, Dr Tomi Coker and Pastor  Remmy Hassan, Special Adviser on Communication, added that in similar vein, the facility the infected Italian was when he fell ill, has also been shut for awhile, while  two guest houses in the company had been converted to clinic for the purpose of  medical facilities for reported cases.

‘The case at hand now is of a 44 year old Italian who arrived the country through airport, and later travelled to a company in Ewekoro, but fell ill on the third day, and after medical examination, he was discovered to have the symptom of the virus, and was subsequently taken to Lagos. The information we are having is that he is responding to treatment’,Abiodun said

‘We have so far identified 28 people he had contact with, and already quarantine, while two guests houses in the company is now converted to medical centre for adequate  medical attention, and the company has equally being shut down for now’, he stated

Penpushing  recalled  that, the Italian was reported to have returned to Nigeria on a  Turkish airline, thereafter  travelled to the said  manufacturing company located in Ewekero community of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State.

The report has it that, on the third day of his arrival he fell ill, and following medical examination, he was discovered to have the symptoms of the virus, and was subsequently transferred to Lagos State, where he is currently on admission.

Penpushing further reports that, Governor Abiodun , however, assured the residents of the State and visitors not to entertain any fear, emphasizing that government had put adequate measure in place to guide against the spread, adding  that part of the measure is the provision of  Isolation wards at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu  for suspected cases.

‘We shall leave no stone unturned , we have provided isolation ward at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu for any suspected cases. We are on top of the situation, we must not panic. We shall continue to update the public. National Disease Control is giving us assurance’, he said.

The Governor  also disclosed that, his administration  is collaborating with the neighbouring Lagos State Government, with the support of the Federal Government to tackle the incidence, before it gets out of hand, adding that the identified victim was also responding to treatment

Penpushing also reports that, Abiodun  advised public on need to always wash their hands, cover their mouth and nose  while sneezing or coughing, and endeavor to  report to the nearest public health institutions on notice of any sign of cold, cough and respiratory difficulty
