Akwa Ibom state governor sacks commissioner
The Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has sacked the Commissioner for Special Duties in the state, Bassey Okon, with an order that Okon should leave the cabinet with immediate effect and handover to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry.
Penpushing reports that the sack order was contained in a press statement reference number SSG/AKS/18/T/32, dated June 10, 2024 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwa
The statement was silence on reason behind the sack, but only explained that it was done to reposition the administration of Governor Eno, in line with the ‘Arise Agenda’, and equally thanked the removed commissioner for his services to the state
‘In an ongoing effort to reposition this administration in line with ARISE AGENDA, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno has relived Dr Bassey. P. Okon, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties as Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council with immediate effect’, the letter reads.
‘His Excellency, thanks him for his services to the state and wishes him the best in his future endeavors. He is therefore, directed to handover to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry. In the meantime, the Ministry will be supervised by the Secretary to the State Government pending the appointment of a new commissioner’, the sack statement emphasized.
Penpushing further reports that record has it that Governor Eno inherited almost all his commissioners and top aides from the administration of his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, and this is the first time the governor would sack a top government official since he assumed office a year ago.
