30-year-old commits suicide over failed marriage proposal

A 30-year-old mother of three, Abigail Adebayo, has allegedly committed suicide on February 12, 2026 in Ijebu area of Ogun State following a reported disagreement over her planned marriage.

Penpushing reports that sources said the woman was said to have been in a relationship with her fiancé since September 2025 and arrangements said to be on top gear to formalise their union.

The sources said the development took another dimension when the would-be groom introduced Abigail to his family, but was rejected for the marriage, for having three children from her previous marriage.

Penpushing further reports that the consent of the would-be groom to objection by the family caused emotional distress for her and thereafter took her own life

“About two weeks ago, he introduced her to his relatives, but his mother reportedly disapproved upon learning that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship. The objection was later reinforced by the man, leading to heightened emotional distress for Abigail’, the source stated.

“Family sources say Abigail was later found motionless in her room and rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. The circumstances reportedly indicate that she ingested a toxic substance’

Penpushing also reports that the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi  Babaseyi , confirmed the incident explaining that the victim was suspected to have died after ingesting an insecticide.

“On Thursday, 12/02/2026, it was reported that one Abigail Adebayo, ‘F’, 30 years, allegedly ingested Sniper insecticide following a family disagreement over their intended marriage. She was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, he said

Penpushing reports that Babaseyi added that detectives had visited both the scene and the hospital as part of ongoing investigations, adding that photographs were taken, and no visible marks of violence found on the body and that investigation is ongoing
