Worldwide University of Lagos Alumni Association to commission building in honour of Oye Ibidapo-Obe
The University of Lagos Alumni Association Worldwide has affirmed the qualities and competence of late Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, describing the deceased as one of Nigeria’s finest Professors that ever lived, as the body set to commission building in his name
Penpushing reports that,National President (Worldwide), of the Alumni Association , Dr. John Momoh, made this known when he led other notable members of the association to the widow of the former Vice Chancellor of the University at the family residence in Lagos State.
The President who disclosed that the visit was to formally invite the Ibidapo-Obe family to the commissioning of the Zenith/Unilag Alumni House named after the deceased pointed out that the former Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, a distinguished Professor as a beloved father, dear friend and highly esteemed member of the University of Lagos Alumni Association.
Penpushing further reports that the President extolled the virtues and legacies of the late Vice Chancellor, administrator, researcher and academic, stating that it was a big honour to have the alumni building in his name.
The 1st National President of the association, Chief Fassy Yusuf in his own remarks relived fond memories of the ‘Waterloo scholar’ and noted that he was not just cerebral but also sociable and that any plan to immortalize him will be welcome by all and sundry.
Penpushing also reports that other members of the alumni association on the entourage include :1st National Vice President, Chief Dr. Fassy Yusuf, Executive Secretary, Mrs. Yetunde Abatan, Alumni Relations Manager, Mr. Seun Badejo and Digital Media Officer, Mr. Jeremiah Olatinwo.
The widow Mrs. Olusola Ibidapo-Obe thanked the President and his team for the visit and appreciated the leadership of the association for finding her late husband worthy of the honour adding that many friends of the family had called her to tell her that the new building in University of Lagos (UNILAG) has her husband’s name inscribed on it.
Penpushing reports that, she revealed that she is currently working towards registering Ibidapo-Obe Institute of Technology (IIT) which is being done with the support of friends of the family including Professors in Nigeria and Diaspora, adding that the institute is to be sited along University Road, Yaba and will be unveiled soon.
