World Cup qualifier: Falconets defeat Senegal in first-leg battle
The Nigeria’s Falconets on Saturday defeated Senegal team in a 1-0 victory to take a slim advantage into the second leg of their third-round qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Penpushing reports that Falconet playing at home inside the Moshood Abiola Sports arena in the presence of reasonable number of spectators dominated large spells of the encounter, creating several scoring chances.
The Falconets, however, found the net just once through substitute Kindness Ifeanyi in the second half., which made it possible for the team to narrowly defeated the visiting team, while the result leaves the tie delicately balanced ahead of next week’s return leg in Dakar.

The Falconets first real opening came in the 12th minute when Shakirat Moshood skipped past two defenders and delivered a low cross into the box, only for the Senegalese defence to block and clear the danger, while the visiting team responded eight minutes later through Sokhna Nogaye, who took advantage of a brief lapse in communication at the back, however, goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma reacted quickly to smother the effort.
Penpushing also reports that the tension soaked match recorded a worrisome development when turn when leading striker for Nigeria, Janet Akekoromowei was forced off with an injury.
