Women Advocates Centre commiserates with Iyalode Alaba Lawson’s family
The Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC) has commiserated with the family of Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson who died peacefully at her private residence located in Quary Road, Abeokuta, on Saturday October 28, 2023.
Penpushing reports that that Executive Director of the Centre, Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi in the condolence letter said the deceased would be fondly remember for her commitment to the right against Sexual and Gender Based Violence within grassroot communities.
‘The entire Board of Directors, Management and staff of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC) commiserates with the family of the late Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson on her passing away’, the letter reads.
‘We remember very fondly Chief Lawson’s commitment to the right against Sexual and Gender based Violence within grassroot communities. Until her ill health, late Chief Alaba Lawson led the coalition of Iyalodes and Iyalojas across Southwest Nigeria on WARDC’S grassroot engagement with traditional rulers and market leaders’. Akiyode-Afolabi wrote
‘With support from Ford Foundation and led by several Civil Society Organizations, these market leaders were trained and led the campaign for the reporting and prosecution of Sexual and Gender based Violence’, the letter reads.
Penpushing further reports that the Centre pointed out that the deceased was highly instrumental to the success of the campaign, lamenting that the women’s rights movement in Nigeria has lost a powerful force.
‘Late Chief Alaba Lawson was highly instrumental to the success of the campaign. The women’s rights movement in Nigeria has lost a powerful force.We send our deepest condolences to the family of late Chief Alaba Lawson.
‘We want you to know that you are not alone. We would do our utmost best to keep the memory of Late Chief Alaba Lawson in the highest esteem. Please accept the assurance of our utmost respect’, the Executive Director said
