Woman commits suicide after dropping three kids in police station
A woman said to have walked into Ogui Police Divisional Headquarters in the Enugu North Local Government Area of the Enugu state dropped three of her children without speaking to anyone, and thereafter committed suicide.
Penpushing reports that the victim whose identity was yet to be identified as at the time of this report was reported to have stripped herself, came out of the police station and ran into a moving vehicle which killed her instantly.
The three children were said to be aged six, four, and two, while sources as the police station which include shop owners in the area attributed the woman’s action to frustration over the increasing economic hardship and rising cost of living in Nigeria.
Penpushing further reports that speculation has it that the woman’s husband ran away from their home a few months ago over the increasing hardship, but this could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
The Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe, as at the time of the incident was yet to issue any official statement on the ugly development, but an aide to Governor Peter Mba who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident.
Penpushing also reports that wife of the Enugu State Governor Nkechinyere Mbah, was reported to have visited the police facility on learning of the incident, where she announced the award of scholarship to the children and indicated interest to care for them
The Governor’s wife explained that the scholarship would be undertaken through her foundation, Custos Care Foundation, an offer which will give them free scholarships up to university (level), and equally urged people who are depressed to seek help and go for counselling to avoid taking severe decisions.
Penpushing reports that she asked the Commissioner for Ministry of Children, Gender and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, to intensify sensitisation and counselling of people, particularly depressed individuals in the state, to help them overcome the situation.
