Willy Thomas, ace radio broadcaster dies

The ace and veteran broadcaster who is the founder of Cowrie FM Radio Station, located in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital has been reported dead in the early hours of Thursday.

Penpushing reports that, the death news was confirmed by the former President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Lanre Ogundipe, who said he could not believe the sad incident

The deceased who worked with Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation as foundation DJ/Producer, and later with Radio Germany was said to have gave up the ghost while been rushed to the hospital, following sudden health challenge.

The late broadcaster on return from Germany some years ago, established a community radio station, known as Cowrie .FM, and he is described as a role model and a pathfinder of community radio station

Penpushing further reports, as the news of the death of the broadcaster in his late 70’s filtered  into the town number of his colleagues and friends rushed to his private residence  in Abeokuta to commiserate with the family.

The  founder of Penpushing media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, expressed disbelief in hearing the sad news, recalling about three four days ago, he(Thomas) sent a press statement in regards meeting of Yoruba summit to him.

‘I can’t believe this, about four days ago, he sent a press statement to me in regards Yoruba summit for publication, Infact, after the publication I took time to send the link of the story to him, which he acknowledged. Honestly, am shock over this sad news’, Kayode-Adedeji said

Penpushing also reports that, another veteran broadcaster who worked together with the deceased at the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation over four decades ago, Sesan Ekisola burst into shock on hearing the news.

The pioneer General Manager of Raypower F.M radio station said, he found it difficult to believe the story at first, stating that he thought it was one of those mere rumour, but dawned on him when source later came from the family
