West Africa leaders’ order deployment of soldiers to Niger Republic, as coupists announce cabinet members
The Economic Community of West African States have order the deployment of the soldiers on standby force to restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger, following recalcitrant of the coup plotters after a week ultimatum given them to restore power to the democratically elected President of the country.
Penpushing reports that the West African leaders arrived at the resolution at their meeting in Abuja, the Nigeria Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in a communique issued on Thursday after reviewing happenings in the country
The Economic Community of West African States resolution came, just as the junta announced the formation of a new government, a few hours before an Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) meeting scheduled to hold on the same day.
Penpushing further reports that the communique read by President Omar Touray of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) noted that all diplomatic efforts made by the West Africa leaders, in resolving the crisis have been defiantly repelled by the military leadership of the Niger Republic
The leaders in the same vein, observed the expiration of the one-week ultimatum given for the restoration of constitutional order in the troubled country, and equally directed the Committee of the Chief of Defence Staff to activate the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) standby force with all its elements immediately.
Penpushing also reports that in contrary to the latest move by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), the coupits announced cabinet members made up of 21 Ministers, including two Ministers of State and a delegate Minister.
The coupists in their cabinet arrangement announced Lamine Zeine Ali Mahamane as interim Prime Minister who will also double up as the Minister of Economy and Finance, while some civilian personalities were also included
Penpushing reports that former Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Salifou Mody, widely considered to be coup leader Abdourahamane Tchiani’s deputy, has been named Minister of national Defence and Abdourahmane Amadou, is the minister of Youth and Sports, while the junta sacked most of the senior government officials who served in President Bazoum’s administration.
