The electoral umpire however implored the disables to shun any political violence during the elections and also added that some measures are in place to ensure that the forthcoming election is free and fair.
“The commission as a statutory body can’t do it all alone without the support of all stakeholders such as political parties, contestants, PWDs, CSOs and others in other to enrich our democracy”, he said.
Penpushing also reports that the Head of Voters Education and Publicity, Adenike Tadese, said no fewer than 18 million people living with disabilities will vote during the forthcoming general elections.
“Nigeria is presumed to have an estimated 18million Persons with Disabilities that is about 10% of the country’s population, this figure is almost the size of three or more West African countries combined together, your population is significant and would impact on the outcome of an election” she said.
Penpushing further reports that, she, however appealed to the disables to mobilize the entire citizen in the state to visit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“I appeal to you to sensitize and mobilize others and the entire citizenry of Ogun State to visit the INEC LG offices to collect their PVCs to enable them exercise their franchise during the forthcoming General Elections’
“Consequently the Commission has made preparations to ensure your active participation in the 2019 general elections as one of the critical stakeholders that must exercise his or her civic duties and responsibilities”, she said.
Penpushing also reports that the Head of Electoral Operations, Samuel Ogunjemilua, while eulogising the Resident Electoral Commissioner, added that the commission had make every possible plans for the people with disabilities to get the Permanent Voters Card, adding that those without the card will not be allowed to vote on election Day.
