He stated further that the agenda was a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity, adding, “the 17 Sustainable Development Goal and 169 targets demonstrated the scale and ambition of the new universal agenda, the seek to build on the Millennium Development Goal and complete what these did not achieve”
“All countries and stake holders acting in collaborative partnership will implement this agenda, we are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny, poverty and want and to heal and to secure our planet as we embark on this collective journey”
Kayanja also explained further that the essence of the launching and translation of the SDGs in Yoruba was to translate it from English to Yoruba which is ‘our local language so as to reach out to people at the grass root’
“We are committed to uplift Yoruba language so that we can reach to all people in the grass root that was why we decided to translate all these 17goals to local language “Yoruba”, he stated
He observed that over 40million people speaks Yoruba language across African nations, adding that there was a need for the government, the traditional rulers, spiritual leaders, educationists and stake holders to contribute their own quota towards promotion and transformation of Yoruba cultural and heritage towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal in Nigeria
Kayanja however highlighted the SDGs such as eradication of poverty, food security and improved nutrition, healthy lives to promote well being, equitable quality education, agenda equality women empowerment , sustainable management of water, access to sustainable energy, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
He added, industrialisation, reduction of inequity, security of life’s, sustainable consumption and production, tackling climate change, marine resources, promotion of peace, and implementation of global partnership
The Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Tourism Mr Toye Arulogu while speaking disclosed that the program was initially slated to hold in Lagos before Oyo state government took over because of its cultural heritage in Yoruba land
“We decided to take this program because of the importance of our cultural value, we are the only State that speak original Yoruba, our Yoruba speaking is widely accepted all over the world”
Arulogun added that Oyo State was the first State to organise this program in Nigeria, and the aim was to get in touch with all the people in the grass root so as to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the State and Nigeria as a whole
“Oyo State Government is committed to fulfill all the promises and program that is in the Sustainable Development Goals, we are putting this together to transform and uplift Yoruba language so as to ensure these SDGs goal come to pass”
