Victory of Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 election in Oyo state shocked opposition, says Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan said that emergence of the present administration in the state led by Governor Seyi Makinde under the banner of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) remained a big surprise to some people, particularly the opposition parties.
Penpushing reports that Olaniyan stated while hosting Iftar (fast breaking) with members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, led by Comrade Ademola Babalola in his private residence
The Deputy Governor explained that, prior to the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state, nobody could believe that he and his principal can win the election, adding that their victory came as a surprise to opposition.
Penpushing further reports that he noted that the opposition underrated him and Governor Makinde, that they cannot win the election because none of them had ever holds any political office.
“They told us that we never holds any political office before, so it will be difficult for us to win the election, I told them that they are going to see a surprise, and the surprise eventually happened when we won. I have been in public service for over 28 years, I have different experiences, and all these experiences I gathered in 28 years has gone beyond politics.”
Penpushing also reports that Olaniyan however urged journalists to criticized the present administration constructively in case there is any lapses so that amendment can be made, adding that Governor Makinde is trying his best for the betterment of the state.
“Don’t crucified us, criticize us constructively so that we can make amendment, many things would have gone wrong if journalists are not available to be the watchdog of the society”,he emphasised
Penpushing reports that Olaniyan therefore lauded effort of journalists towards the betterment of the society, saying that journalists as the 4th estate of the realm, their role is crucial towards nation building.
The Chairman of Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Comrade Ademola Babalola earlier on his remarks thanked the Deputy Governor for his support and kindness toward journalists in the state, affirming that he remained one of the pillars of the union.
