University lecturer who teaches peace, conflict resolution caught attempting to sexually assault female student
A lecturer teaches Peace and Conflict Resolution and Nigerian People’s and Culture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Mfonobong Udoudom has been caught allegedly trying to sexually molest a female student in the university.
Penpushing reports that the university management confirmed the development, disclosing that the incident happened on Monday in the lecturer’s office at the General Studies Programme (GSP) complex of the institution
The lecturer, works at the General Studies Programme (GSP) Unit of the university and was seen in a viral video clip putting on only shorts in his office where he was said to have attempted to molest the student, but the clip did not show the female student he allegedly attempted to molest.
Penpushing further reports that a voice said in the background of the clip said authorities have been following this case from day one, adding that there are evidences of all the tracks, all the voice notes and everything,
The source added that the yet-to-be-identified victim is a married woman, stressing that the lecturer had been suspected to be involved in alleged sex-for-grades for a long time in the institution, stating that in the latest incident Udoudom was said to have threatened to fail the female student in his course if she refused to have an affair with him in his office.
Penpushing also reports that the source within the university community said the female student reported the lecturer to the university management after he reportedly declined to accept money offered by the student.
The source added that the institution’s management subsequently asked the student to pretend that she had agreed to have the affair with the lecturer while they monitored the situation, however, when contacted on Tuesday, the University, Public Relations Officer Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the development.
Penpushing reports that Omeaku, in a statement disclosed that the university management has set up a disciplinary panel to investigate the incident, adding that the lecturer has been placed on indefinite suspension with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the university to investigate the incident.
The university spokesperson emphasized that the university has zero-tolerance for sexual misconducts involving its staff and students, adding that the institution is among a few universities in Nigeria that has a Sexual Harassment Policy guiding relationship between staff and students of the institution.
“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the university management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel’,Omeaku said.
Penpushing further reports that the Dean of Students Affairs of the university, Prof Edwin Omeje on his part, explained that the matter was being handled by institution authorities in collaboration with the police in Enugu State.
The Dean of Students Affairs speaking on the role of the university in apprehending the lecturer, added that what he can say for now is that investigations are still ongoing, and need to authenticate every information before making it official
