University College Hospital Chief Medical Director, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service tests positive for Coronavirus.

The Chief Medical doctor, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Prof Jesse Otegbayo, has tested positive for coronavirus, as well as the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service Mohammed Babandede .

Penpushing reports that this was disclosed in a statement personally signed by the Chief Medical Director which reads, “on Monday 23rd March, we commenced a 12-man quarterly board meeting which was meant to last 5 days in the hospital, we observed social distancing and other precautionary measures for COVID-19 as much as possible.

“However, on Wednesday morning, one of us presented with what appeared to be symptoms of COVID-19, his samples were immediately taken for test and the meeting called off. His results returned positive on Friday morning and every participant (including me) immediately went into self-isolation while our samples were also taken for test.”

“Unfortunately, my result returned positive on Saturday afternoon and I remain in isolation as I am not symptomatic. All staff who have been in contact with me and other participants during this period have been advised to immediately proceed on self- isolation pending the time they get tested.”

“COVID-19 is spreading faster than we think and I enjoin everyone to take precautions. If one person has it, then a gathering of two becomes dangerous. Stay at home, avoid unnecessary outing and stay safe”, he emphasised

The spokesman of the hospital, Mr Toye Akinrinlola while contacted confirmed the authenticity of the statement.

Penpushing further reports that, in a similar development, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mohammed Babandede, has tested positive for the virus, joining a list of officials who have tested positive to the virus.

The Customs boss in a statement disclosed, “I tested positive for COVID-19. I have been in self-isolation since my return from the UK on Sunday on Sunday 22nd of this month with British Airways in Lagos.I urge my loved ones, Immigration Officers and Nigerians to pray for me and all those affected,”.

“It is a very difficult time but we can’t change what God destined for us. I urge officers to continue working with my able Deputy to further move our Service to another level. As advised by NCDC I am totally isolated.””

Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service said he was in the United Kingdom with his wife, who, however, tested negative,
