Two students drown in river after sneaking out from assembly

Two students of the Federal Government College, Keffi in Nasarawa State, have been reported drowned in a river, having left the school to go and swim while their colleagues were at the assembly hall

Penpushing reports that, three of them embarked on the swimming, and in the process one of them who dived into the river was drowning when his colleague went to rescue him, but he too drowned because they both didn’t know how to swim.

The sources at the school disclosed that  three  of them who were male students on Friday morning breached the school rule by going to the river to swim while their colleagues were at the assembly hall.

“Three male students of the Federal Government College in Keffi, Nasarawa State, went to swim in a nearby river. One of them dived into the river and was drowning. Then his colleague went to rescue him, but he too drowned because they both didn’t know how to swim.It was the third student who ran back to the assembly hall to break the tragic news to his friends”, the sources added

Penpushing further reports that, another source blamed porous fence of the school as part of the sad development, adding that the school fence that was washed away by flood which allowed students to stray from the school compound unnoticed.

The Principal of the college as at the time of filing this report was yet to make any official statement over the incident, while the Chairman of the school Paarents Teachers Association(PTA) Kefas Kaura confirmed the incident.

Penpushing also reports that,, in similar vein, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) in Abuja, Bem Goong,  the  worrisome development, adding that as at the time of this report a parent to one of the deceased students who hailed from Jos, Plateau State, had arrived the school on Saturday morning to collect the corpse.
