TWENTY- ONE OGUN PRISON INMATES UNDERGOING UNIVERSITY DEGREE PROGRAMME, AS 69 OBTAINS NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION
He said, the beneficiaries are on scholarship of the National Open University (NOUN),explaining that, this avail the inmates opportunity to have university education, adding that in similar development sixty-nine inmates have graduated from National Certificate of Education(NCE)
Penpushing further reports that, the prison boss said, another round of thirty inmates are undergoing programmes at different level of study, explaining that this was done in collaboration with Yewa Central College of Education, that brought the programme into the prison.
Speaking further,Benson disclosed that, as part of commitment of the authority in ensuring better education for the inmates, a centre for National Examination Council(NECO) has been open in the command for inmates to write examination.
He disclosed that twenty-two inmates of old Abeokuta Prisons, eight from Ilaro prisons, five from Ijebu-Ode Prisons sat for the National Examination Council(NECO) in the November/December 2018, adding that the council just approved that each of the prisons in the command with minimum of twenty candidates would be allowed a centre.
On the Pre/Post Literacy Programme, the Comptroller said thirty inmates are presently on the programme in collaboration with Agency for Mass Education, also disclosing that, sixty-four inmates graduated in various vocational skill acquisition programme.
He said, these ranges from shoe making,barbing ,tailoring,hhairdressing, carpentry, and bead making among others, which he said is done in partnership with Agency for Mass Education, which is responsible for the assessment and issuance of certificate to the successful learner
