TWENTY- ONE NIGERIAN GOVERNORS’ WIVES CONVERGE FOR WOMEN SUMMIT

The 3-day summit is also to promote healthy behaviour and practices by enhancing knowledge of common health conditions,

Penpushing reports that, the convener of the summit, Dr. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi said that the event has brought women across Nigeria because of their belief and love for what she did, noting that it has been an amazing journey in the last six years of touching the lives of women positively and bringing joy to humanity especially the disadvantage.

She added that the gains from the first to the sixth edition of the summit have left incredible marks in lives of women, stressing that the summit has become the official life changing platform for the women to generate practical ideas towards actualising their full potentials.

The Host Governor’s wife reiterated that Oyo State Officials Wives Association (OYSOWA) is a body comprising the wives of all public office holders in the State, whether elected, appointed or employed.

Her words, “The essence of this coming together is to create a synergy of our strengths because we are aware of the great strength in numbers and we know that together, everyone achieves more.

She said  the event was also to creates a forum where women from different walks of life can come together to bare their minds on salient issues affecting them as women, and jointly examine idea and bring up practical solutions and recommendation.

“We have achieve several success as a body over the last six years, we have institutionalised OYSOWA and built a Secretariat staffed with competent hands, equipped it with modern facilities so that OYSOWA can continue to be a going concern’.

“OYSOWA has organised several symposia in collaboration with Universities and reputable NGOs, focused on solving problems encountered by women and youth, some of the program specifically addressed the women and gender goal to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and created awareness on violence against women’.

“OYSOWA has and still empowering women with skills and tools and other materials to emancipate them economically, we have also directly contributed to our community including providing mammoth waste Bins to ensure cleaner communities.

She lauded the effort of the Oyo State Governor for assisting the organisation to actualise its dreams and aspirations for a better life for them and their children since the inception of the program six years ago, adding that the association will forever remain grateful for the rare privilege and support the governor had given to them.

The Oyo State Governor’s wife, however urged women particularly the association to keep promoting and hold the National Summit annually because it has indeed a unique conference that has its way on bounding them together as wives and mothers in the state and the world as a whole

“Always learn that the only way you are going to get to anywhere in life is to work hard and be consistent, all women must come to the realisation that this is an era of women emancipation and libration, now the time to arise and tackle decisive action for change against all odds, women should no longer be a figure head, they must make their voice heard and their impact felt strongly against all odds

The Special Guest of honour Dr. Aloma Mariam Muhkhtar who was former Chief Justice of Nigeria while delivering her keynote address said “women have long been deprived of their rights both politically, morally  and in many other ways.”

“For longer years now in Nigeria, I have not seen a woman Governor, talkless of woman President, but am so sure that one day a woman will emerge as a Governor and even a President of this country.”

“The women in politics should continue with their fight even if they don’t get there now they will still get there someday, for  women to be recognised anywhere they would  have worked ten times than men, so I will urge we the women to continue to support ourselves so that we can together get to where we are going.” Muhkhtar stated. 

Similarly,in her goodwill message Mrs. Yemisi Jenkins urged all women to see themselves as friends, so they can achieve greatness in life, stressing that, “it is so sad that most times women are enemy of themselves, they are the one that are at times create problem for one of them, though we struggle to do things as  women, but we should not relent on our struggle, we should be up to our tasks.

“Though we cannot do things without men, and we should also let the men folks realised that without us they cannot do things rights, because there is saying that behind every successful husband there is a woman.” Jenkins explained.

Also in her goowill message the first lady of Delta State  Edith Okowa described the Oyo State counterpart, Dr. Mrs Florence Ajimobi as gift of nature that is beautiful in and out.

She said “Madam Flourence Ajimobi is a gift of nature to the less privileges in our society, for over good seven years now she has been able to touch lives, turning lives for better change through this her program.”

The Governor of Oyo State, SenatorAbiola Ajimobi in his welcome address said that women should be giving more priority at all times because they are the raisers of tomorrow leaders.

He said “I am more touched with the theme of this program that says “against all odd” because despite all odds,women still strive in Africa but they need our collective support. African women are always with the spirit of never die never, they are so strong, resilience and tolerance. They are the in the forefront when comes to raising children which they are our tomorrow leaders.”

“They should be more empowered, they should be more equip, and they should be giving more priority because of their role in our society” Ajimobi said.
