Trump escapes assassination at political rally, suspected assassin shot dead
The former President of United States of America (USA) and Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump narrowly escaped death on Saturday as he was shot by a suspected assassin during a rally in Pennsylvania
Penpushing reports that the 78-year-old Trump was shot at upper part of his right ear by a 20-year-old man identified a Matthew Crooks in multiple shots which claimed lives of one of the rally attendants while two others were severely injured
The source, however, said the gunman was subsequently shot dead and in reaction the United States of America (USA) Bureau of Investigation (FBI) described the attack as an assassination attempt on Trump, adding that the gunman fired multiple shots.
Penpushing further reports that Trump was later rushed to the hospital while his opponent who is the incumbent President, Joe Biden, who was in Delaware during the shooting, as well as the former President of the country Barack Obama have condemned the shooting.
The White House said President Biden has a spoken to Trump, while in his reaction former President Obama wrote on X that there is absolutely no place for political violence in the country’s democracy, adding that he was relieved that Trump wasn’t seriously hurt.
Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report it is unclear how the shooting will impact the November Presidential election in the country that sees Trump locked in a close race with Biden of the Democratic Party.
The 78-year-old Republican Presidential nominee is popular among conservatives and right-wing voters and has repeatedly campaigned against immigration and vowed to deport thousands of illegal immigrants.
Penpushing reports that the Democratic Party candidate, 81-year-old Biden, on his part supports a more inclusive society and has created pathways for illegal immigrants without crime records to become American citizens.
The sitting President faces internal criticism from his party following concerns about his cognitive ability, especially after a poor debate performance against Trump, while there have been calls from some Democrats that he should drop from the race, but he said he would not and expressed optimism that would defeat Trump in the election.
