Suspected smugglers kill customs officer
A Customs officer with the Federal Operating Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been killed by suspected smugglers in Fagbohun village, located inYewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that, two other officers as at the time of this report were reported missing during the Tuesday attack by the smugglers when a patrol team of customs officers arrived in the village for an operation.
The corpse of the officer was later discovered on Wednesday in a river near Ajegun Iyaloosa village, while his rifle was said to have being missing, as two suspected were reported to have been arrested over the alleged killing
Penpushing further reports that, Public Relations Officer of Federal Operating Unit (FOU) Zone A, Theophilus Duniya, confirmed the incident, adding that one of the officers was confirmed dead and whereabout of others remain unknown as at the time of filing this report.
“One of the officers is confirmed dead, while the other one is still missing. It happened Tuesday in the afternoon. They were on information patrol when they were attacked. It was an unprovoked attack that ended the life of one and the other one is still missing’, he said.
“The one that was found dead, his rifle was missing; but we can’t say for the other one that is still missing until we get to the end of it. At the moment, we have some suspects in custody in relation to that murder.”
Penpushing also reports that, the customs spokesman, however, kept sealed lip on the identity of the deceased, but said the family of the late officer, as well as that of the missing would be contacted officially before any further disclosure to the press.
