Students trapped as two-storey school building collapses in Jos
A two-storey school building, Saint Academy which housed classrooms and offices in Jos on Friday collapsed, trapping scores of students writing their third term examination, while as at the time of filing this report rescue efforts were ongoing by the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
Penpushing reports that the ground floor of the building contains mainly Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) students, while the senior students are on the top floors, and as at time of report number of casualties could not be ascertained
The Executive Secretary of Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Sunday Abdu, speaking on the ugly development said the agency had mobilised its personnel and relevant agencies to the scene for emergency rescue efforts.
Penpushing further reports that Abdu explained that the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) personnel, and others, were currently at the scene with earth-moving equipment to remove the debris, and try rescuing the children.
The Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Eugene Nyelong, in his reaction said the number of casualties would be ascertained on completion of recuse operations, while it was also observed at the scene that rescued victims are being rushed to different hospitals by ambulances of various organisations.
